2011 Genomic Express Receives CLIA Certification
April 11, 2011
Genomic Express, Inc. has received CLIA certification for its molecular genetics laboratory in Westlake Village, CA. A Clinical Laboratory License was issued by the California Department of Public Health and a CLIA Certificate of Registration for high complexity testing was issued by the U.S Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Genomic Express is CLIA certified in Clinical Cytogenetics, subspecialty Molecular Diagnostics.
The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) were implemented by the United States federal government in 1988. It applies to all clinical laboratory testing performed on humans in the United States for the purpose of providing information: (1) for the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of disease or impairment, and/or (2) for the assessment of health. The CLIA system is designed to ensure accuracy and precision of testing, and quality control of laboratory operations.
"We are pleased to receive CLIA certification from both the CMS and the State of California" stated Grant A. Bitter, Ph.D., Founder and C.E.O. of Genomic Express, Inc. "Our Molecular Genetics Laboratory has, in fact, been operating under CLIA standards for several years. Official certification by both CMS and the State of California will allow us to now add medical genetic tests to our product line." The first medical tests introduced will be in the area of pharmacogenetics, Dr. Bitter further noted.
